BLACKBIRD, THE BLACK BROWSER, CELEBRATES 100,000 DOWNLOADS

Enhances News Sharing Capabilities for African American Community

Sunnyvale, California – March 2, 2009 – Blackbird, the only browser designed for the African American consumer, celebrated its growing community with its 100,000th download. Launched in December 2008, Blackbird offers relevant information to anyone interested in African American culture.

“It’s been a whirlwind since Blackbird was released to the general public, with more than 100,000 people downloading the application in only two and a half months,” said Ed Young, CEO and Co-Founder of Blackbird. “Our community is rapidly expanding, and therefore we will continue to develop relevant resources and bring people together in a social media, Web 2.0 setting.”

By simplifying the everyday online experience, Blackbird makes it fast and easy to find relevant Black content. Based on the Mozilla Firefox Architecture, Blackbird makes News, Search, Black Blogs, Lifestyle Websites, Networks and Business Associations, Non-Profits and Universities a simple click away.

The majority of its users make Blackbird their default browsers, positioning Blackbird as their main gateway onto the Internet.

Blackbird offers the popular News Ticker feature, with relevant news headlines scrolling across the top of the screen, keeping people instantly informed of current events. The ticker can be turned on or off based on preference.

Today, Blackbird introduced Blackbird Grapevine, a new social media feature that allows people to submit stories from a website and then vote on the relevance to the community and subsequently create online conversations, upload photos and email them to friends.

“Blackbird Grapevine has the ability to quickly have viral appeal,” added Young. “We invite current Blackbird users to start sharing their favorite stories about sports, politics, entertainment and more as they happen.”

Since the browser was introduced to the public, Blackbird has regularly introduced new and enhanced features including the corporate Blackbird Blog, improved bookmarking and more. Anyone interested in the Black culture and community is encouraged to experience this new frontier in web productivity and entertainment by downloading the Blackbird Beta browser free at www.blackbirdbrowser.com. Current Blackbird users can download Blackbird Beta version 0.999 to access Blackbird Grapevine and other software updates.

I love Blackbird Browser and I have been spreading the word to friends through my blogs and on facebook. Currently, though, I’m having trouble with a couple of things. I’m unable to access the user posted Blogs/News Feed section. I get a statement that says I need to log into Blackbird Browser whenever I click on the Post a News Story link at the top of the page. Also, my news ticker used to pop up automatically whenever I open the browser, but the last few days it hasn’t done that and it’s very delayed in getting the ticker up when I click to turn it on.

Other than that, I love it and keep up the good work.

Congratulations!!!!!! and continued success. There was one thing I wanted to post…Canada has someone the US isn’t telling us about.

The Governor General of Canada is the vice-regal or viceroy representative in Canada of the Queen of Canada , who is the head of state. A viceroy is a royal official who governs a country in the name of and as representative of the monarch.

Canada is one of sixteen British Commonwealth realms, all of which share the British monarch as their royal leader. The monarch appoints the Governor General on the advice of the Canadian Prime Minister, who is the Canadian Head of Government, after which the Governor General maintains direct contact with the British monarch. There is no specific term.

    Executive power of Canada
Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, is the sovereign and Head of State of Canada, and gives repository of executive power, judicial and legislative power; as expressed in Constitution of Canada:

The Prime Minister of Canada is currently Stephen Harper. The prime minister is appointed by the Governor General, who is now Michaelle Jean, but to ensure the continuity of a stable government, this person must have the confidence of the House of Commons to lead the government.

The Prime Minister of Canada is the primary Minister of the Crown, chairman of the Cabinet, and thus head of government of Canada . The office is not outlined in any of the documents that constitute the written portion of the constitution of Canada and executive authority is formally vested in the Canadian sovereign and exercised on his or her behalf by the Governor General.

Michaëlle Jean (born September 6, 1957, in Port-au-Prince , Haiti ) is the current Governor General of Canada . Jean was appointed by Queen Elizabeth II, on the recommendation of Prime Minister Paul Martin, to succeed Adrienne Clarkson and become the 27th Governor General of Canada since Confederation in 1867. Prior to this, Jean was a journalist and broadcaster on Radio-Canada and the CBC.

As the current Governor General of Canada , she is entitled to be styled Her Excellency while in office, and The Right Honourable for life; given current practice, she will be sworn in to the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada after her term as the Queen’s representative has ended.

Jean fled Haiti with her family from dictator François Duvalier’s regime in 1968. Her father, from whom she was estranged for many years, was a philosopher who was tortured under Duvalier’s regime and separated from the family for 30 years. The Jean family settled at Thetford Mines , Quebec ..

As a student at the University of Montreal , Jean received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Italian and Hispanic languages and literature and, from 1984 until 1986, taught Italian studies while completing a Master of Arts degree in comparative literature. Jean attended the University of Florence , the University of Perugia , and the Catholic University of Milan to continue her studies in language and literature. Besides French and English, Jean is fluent in Spanish, Italian, and Haitian Creole and can read Portuguese. I have pictures that I would love to submit
